Math Workshop Implementation
My math block is an hour long. I will teach a 20
minute mini lesson. I usually use a math literature book to launch my
lesson (Math Start books from Stuart J. Murphy are wonderful!). After
having a book discussion about the math concept I will model the
concept. I intend on using lessons from the
Teaching Student
Center Mathematics K-3 from the Van de Walle Professional
Mathematics Series,
Nimble with Numbers. I will also be using selected lessons from
the following books: Solve It! Grade 2, It's About
Time, Shapes, Solids and More, Counting on Coins
and Awesome Addition
& Super Subtraction from
AIMS. After the mini lesson
students will have an opportunity to practice one of the math strands by
doing the selected activities listed below it. During this time I will
pull students for small group math instruction.
